Services
Shornells
Day Centre

Shornells
provides care for people affected by a life threatening or life
limiting illness coupled with support for their families.
Our
Team
Usually
you will be referred by your Doctor, Home Care Nurse or Hospital
Consultant. Our Community Services Lead Nurse will visit you
at home to make an initial assessment of your needs and discuss
with you the range of services you may wish to consider trying.
Information will be given to you and your family/carer about our
services and you will have the opportunity to ask questions or raise
any concerns that you may have. If you are interested in coming
to Day Care, you will usually be offered a place one day a week.
You will
receive a warm welcome with plenty of time to sit and chat and enjoy
the company of staff, volunteers and other patients. Shornells is
a meeting place – a focus for mutual support and shared experiences.

There
is laughter and friendship, but it is also possible to be quiet
and restful.
Not only
is Shornells a social environment for patients, but it also offers
a regular review of patients’ needs, a day of respite for carers
and access to our various services.
Transport
can be arranged if necessary to pick you up and take you home. Our
volunteer drivers use their own cars or the Hospice mini bus.
The day
usually starts at 10 am and finishes around 3 pm. Lunch is included
each day and you choose your meal from the menu. Our Chef caters
for both special and cultural needs. You can even enjoy a pre-lunch
alcoholic beverage from the "Jolly Trolley"

During
the day you choose how to spend your time. The following are all
available to you.
Relaxation
Spoil
yourself in the hairdressing salon, have a facial, manicure, relaxing
bath, massage or just sit and enjoy the gardens. There
is a quiet room with soft lights and music.

These

of our Activities Co-ordinator who is happy to facilitate individual
hobbies and interests.
