Spiritual Care Service
Many of our service-users, including patients, carers, family and friends find that living with a life-limiting illness raises questions of meaning. Questions to be faced include the meaning of life, suffering, death and after-life. The anxiety evoked by confronting these issues is sometimes called spiritual pain. All hospice staff recognise this pain as coming from the deepest place within us and are committed to supporting people through it. We recognise that there are a variety of ways in which people respond to spiritual pain. Some people will receive comfort from within their faith communities, while others may not be of any religious persuasion. All Hospice staff are committed to responding to the spiritual need of our patients, families and friends in whatever way it presents itself.
Chaplaincy
Our chaplaincy team is an integral part of our Spiritual Care Service. At present it comprises representatives from a variety of Christian denominations. We are also committed to strengthening our links with representatives of other faith communities in the boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley. A list of contacts for these communities is maintained and can be accessed by speaking with the Head of Social, Psychological & Spiritual Care (020)8320 5829, the Co-ordinating Chaplain or the Nursing Staff.
There is a weekly service held in the prayer room which is located next to the Family Area. Everyone is invited to attend and should a patient have a particular need, services can be arranged at other times. We also offer Holy Communion, personal prayers, prayers at the bedside and special services. Please speak with the Co-ordinating Chaplain or the nurse in charge to make the necessary arrangements.
There is a designated book for writing in personal prayers or reflections. |
